Senator Cassidy Calls Gifts to Trump Jr. Very Bad — The Hill
In the United States, Republican Senator Bill Cassidy criticized Donald Trump Jr. for accepting expensive gifts from Russian businessman Umar Kremlev. As The Hill reports, the outlet describes Kremlev as an oligarch with close ties to the Kremlin — the authorities of the aggressor state Russia.
Cassidy's statement
Speaking on CBS Face the Nation, Cassidy said that a $250,000 gift from a person with close ties to the Kremlin was wrong. According to him, for the son of the U.S. president, who has proximity to power, accepting such a gift “looks very bad” and could create the impression that Washington is a “swamp.”
The senator also said that Trump Jr. did the right thing if he returned Kremlev's money. At the same time, Cassidy added that such reimbursement should be checked and that the situation should not have been allowed in the first place.

Post-wedding celebration
According to The Hill, citing ProPublica, Kremlev paid to rent one of two private islands in the Bahamas for a three-day post-wedding celebration for Trump Jr. and his wife, Bettina Trump. He also paid for a private fireworks display.
In a social media post, Bettina Trump confirmed that their “dear friend Umar” hosted two evenings of celebrations, emphasizing that they took place after a private wedding ceremony attended only by family members.
President Donald Trump told reporters that, as he understands it, his son returned Kremlev's money and did nothing improper. Republican Senators John Curtis and Thom Tillis also criticized the financing of the celebration: Curtis said it looked like corruption, while Tillis called it “extraordinarily bad.”
