212 head of cattle disappear from Australian farm — ABC News Australia
Australian police are investigating the disappearance of 212 head of cattle from a farm on West Wilcannia Road near Wilcannia in New South Wales. As ABC News Australia reports, law enforcement officers are currently determining whether the animals wandered off or may have been stolen.
The disappearance may have occurred between March and August
Police were notified about the missing cattle on September 6. Investigators believe they may have disappeared between March and August. Detective Chief Inspector of the Rural Crime Prevention Unit Cameron Whiteside said the investigation is at an early stage.
According to him, the cattle had been grazing, and their absence was reported after the animals were returned to their owners north of Broken Hill. Police are considering all possible explanations, as farms in this remote area are located far apart and livestock are not checked every day.

Police appeal for information
The missing animals include 155 black Angus cows, eight black Angus bulls, 48 Shorthorn cows and one Shorthorn bull. Their value is estimated at between A$500,000 and A$1 million.
According to police, the cattle bear a brand consisting of a capital F above a sideways capital B. The animals are also marked with the letter V on each ear and rectangular notches below the ears. Investigators called on local landowners, workers at neighbouring farms, contractors, livestock sales agents, transport operators and people who travelled through the area to provide information.
