According to him, if the island’s status is resolved “properly,” the two countries will be able to continue cooperating and avoid escalation. At the same time, Xi emphasized that if the issue is handled incorrectly, the situation could escalate into a clash or even direct conflict, which would jeopardize the entire framework of Sino-American relations.
According to CNN, these remarks were made during a closed-door session of the talks and reported by the Chinese state news agency Xinhua. After the meeting concluded, Donald Trump declined to comment to reporters on the topic of Taiwan, although he had previously stated his intention to discuss with Beijing the issue of supplying American weapons to Taiwan.
