Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Chen Li-wen, the leader of Taiwan’s largest opposition party, the Kuomintang, during which he stated that Taiwan’s reunification with mainland China is a “historical inevitability.”

Xi Jinping emphasized that, despite rapid changes in global politics, the trend toward rapprochement between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will not change.
He emphasized that China opposes Taiwan’s independence and is ready to cooperate with the island’s political forces to shape future relations between the parties.
Chen Li-wen spoke of the need for a “joint project to revive Chinese civilization” and emphasized that despite their different political systems, the parties must respect one another and move toward dialogue.
During her visit to China, she traveled to Shanghai and Nanjing, where she called for avoiding armed conflict and emphasized the importance of dialogue between the parties.
She also expressed a willingness to develop closer ties with Beijing and stated that if the Kuomintang returns to power in 2028, the party could restore relations with mainland China.
Prior to this, Beijing had sharply criticized the Taiwanese administration, stating that the island was incapable of independently ensuring the stability of supply chains.
As a reminder, China is tightening control over the use of drones in Beijing.
