A deposit brimming with the fuel of the future has been discovered in Canada — Blic

In Canada, scientists have discovered a vast natural hydrogen deposit that has the potential to significantly accelerate the global energy transition and lead to a massive reduction in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.

The uniqueness of this site lies in the ability to produce clean, eco-friendly fuel without the need to build expensive transportation infrastructure.

The well-known European publication Blic reports that analysis of the first samples confirms the high efficiency of the source, which could provide alternative energy to hundreds of private households annually.

Natural hydrogen has long been considered one of the most promising fuels of the future for global industry and transportation.

Its key advantage lies in its absolute safety for the environment, as its use produces no carbon dioxide emissions, and the only byproduct is ordinary water.

Until now, the main problem has been the expensive and energy-intensive artificial production of this resource, which is often based on the combustion of traditional fossil fuels.

Because of this, researchers are paying increasing attention to so-called “white hydrogen”—natural reserves found directly within the Earth’s crust.

A large-scale study of Canada’s underground resources spanned many years to ensure the most accurate and verified results. Researchers from the University of Toronto and the University of Ottawa analyzed samples taken from 35 wells at depths of up to 2.9 kilometers.

In some locations, measurements were taken over a period of more than 10 years to ensure that hydrogen emissions remained at a stable level.

This thorough approach made it possible to completely rule out the risk of rapid depletion of the discovered energy source.

The experts’ final calculations demonstrated the high commercial and environmental potential of developing Canada’s subsoil. The results proved quite promising.

According to estimates, the field could provide about 4.7 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year. This amount would be enough to supply approximately 400 households throughout the year.

Engineers are currently working on developing optimal technologies for the safe extraction of gas.
