France has tested the X-Fire launcher as a European alternative to HIMARS
At the same time, according to the developers, X-Fire will be able to use other munitions, both domestic and foreign. From this, one can infer that if the Thundart project, which is being developed by Safran and MBDA as a competitor to the FLP-t 150, wins the competition, it too could be used with the Thales vehicle.
The launcher itself is based on an 8x8 wheeled chassis, which is compatible with the French Army’s existing vehicle fleet. Although this is not specified, the platform has been identified as the German Mercedes-Benz Zetros, which France selected as its new military truck.
It is worth noting that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have also ordered 1,000 such vehicles for 2025, so if the MLRS is ever supplied to us, the equipment will already be familiar here. Overall, France aims to develop its own solution independent of other countries, which will then be supplied as a competitor to the M142 HIMARS, K239 Chunmoo, and PULS.

According to current plans, the French intend to acquire between 13 and 26 launchers by 2030, which could be X-Fire systems. However, they plan to order only 300 missiles during the same period.
At the same time, the U.S. does not seem to want competitors for its HIMARS, so it is offering France its own MLRS systems with extremely fast delivery times. Although they are not saying anything directly, such a purchase could deal a serious blow to the reputation of the European alternative.
