The Russian Federation has significantly expanded its technical capabilities to interfere with the GPS navigation system from within the Kaliningrad Oblast.

This was officially announced by Darius Kuliešius, deputy head of Lithuania’s communications regulator, in an interview with the international news agency Reuters.

Currently, the aggressor country is capable of distorting and blocking signals deep into the European continent at a distance of up to 450 kilometers.

Poland, the Baltic states, as well as certain regions of Finland and Sweden, are under direct threat of large-scale electronic interference.

The Russian side has dramatically increased the number of special antennas used for “GPS spoofing.”

This technology involves transmitting false geographic coordinates, which completely disorients civilian and military navigation systems.

While only three such antennas were recorded in the Kaliningrad region in early 2025, their number has now risen to 36.

European experts began recording the first large-scale anomalies and disruptions as early as during the NATO summit in Vilnius in 2023. However, the situation has worsened in recent years, as the Kremlin has turned these actions into a permanent tool of pressure.

“They have now built out the infrastructure, and this interference has become a systematic, constant, and endless Russian provocation against European security,” emphasized Darius Kuliešius.

Systemic disruptions pose serious risks not only to international civil aviation, which is forced to reroute flights.

In the border regions of European countries, mobile communications are noticeably deteriorating due to Russia’s actions, and there are prolonged disruptions in the operation of critical infrastructure.

In particular, online schedules for public transportation in cities periodically stop functioning and updating.
