Xi Jinping invited Trump to China for the APEC summit
Chinese President Xi Jinping has invited Donald Trump and his wife Melania to China for the APEC summit in November. Trump has accepted the invitation, and Vladimir Putin is also mentioned among the possible summit participants.
U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to visit China in November, following an invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping. The event in question is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. The summit is scheduled for November 18–19 in Shenzhen, China. CNN reported on Xi’s invitation and Trump’s acceptance.
During their conversation, Xi Jinping noted that the leaders of the U.S. and China will have two more opportunities to meet this year. The first is the APEC summit in China, and the second is the G20 summit in Miami in December. “I look forward to” welcoming Trump and Melania to China again, Xi Jinping said.
Trump responded by agreeing to the trip. “Thank you very much. We’ll come and have a lot of talks,” the U.S. president said.
The upcoming meeting will mark yet another interaction between the two leaders. Xi Jinping is currently on a state visit to the U.S., during which he is holding talks with Trump. The possibility of Vladimir Putin’s participation in the summit is drawing particular attention. It was previously reported that the Russian president might personally attend the APEC meeting in China.
In addition, the U.S. has already confirmed an invitation for Putin to attend the G20 summit, which will take place in December in Miami. CNN noted that Washington views this as an opportunity for new interactions between world leaders. At the same time, it is unknown whether Putin will accept this invitation. If Putin does attend the APEC summit in China, it could create an opportunity for him to meet with Trump and Xi Jinping. However, such a meeting has not yet been confirmed.
During the current talks at the White House, Trump and Xi are discussing a wide range of issues. These include trade, artificial intelligence, security matters, Taiwan, and international conflicts. Russia’s war against Ukraine remains a separate topic of discussion. The Chinese side has stated that international issues will be discussed during the leaders’ meeting.
Thus, in the coming months, Trump and Xi may meet at least one more time—this time in China. And if Putin does attend the APEC summit, the leaders of the U.S., China, and Russia could gather in Shenzhen. CNN reports this.
