Szijjártó disappeared after Orbán's defeat in the parliamentary elections
Hungary’s pro-Russian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó disappeared from the public eye and stopped attending official events following the parliamentary elections, in which his boss, Viktor Orbán, lost. People on social media are joking that he has already headed to Rostov.
His absence was noted, in particular, by the Hungarian publication 444.hu.
In particular, Szijjártó was not by Viktor Orbán’s side during his public concession of defeat, which was unusual given previous political events.
Additionally, according to media reports, the minister has shown no activity on social media for over 16 hours. This stands in stark contrast to his usual behavior, as he previously posted updates and comments regularly.
Szijjártó’s last Facebook post appeared around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12. In it, he urged supporters of the Fidesz party to vote.
Earlier that day, the minister also posted a photo with his wife after casting his vote. His absence amid key political developments following Orbán’s defeat has already sparked active discussion in the Hungarian media and among political observers.
As a reminder, ahead of Election Day, Szijjártó claimed that Ukraine had allegedly carried out yet another attack on the “Turkish Stream” gas pipeline, which, according to him, poses a threat to Hungary’s energy security and sovereignty.
Earlier, Szijjártó criticized Ukraine’s briefing for diplomats regarding the Druzhba oil pipeline.
Szijjártó criticizedstatements regarding Ukraine’s role in European security.
