Sikorsky suggested that Russia might carry out a provocation under a foreign flag to escalate the situation
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that Russia may be preparing a provocation on its own territory under a foreign flag, which it would then use as a pretext for new acts of aggression against other countries.
Sikorski was responding to remarks by Vladimir Putin that Russia would allegedly attack European countries if drones were launched from their territory toward Russia.
“This sounds like an announcement of a provocation. I expect an attack on Russian territory under a false flag, to which Putin will respond,” the Polish foreign minister noted.
To support his claims, Sikorski recalled the Gleiwitz provocation of 1939, when Nazi Germany staged an attack on a radio station to use it as a pretext for invading Poland.
According to the Polish minister, such scenarios could be used to justify further escalation and aggressive actions by Russia against other countries.
He wrote about this on social media, according to Polish Radio.
