Syria plans rapid restart of production at newly seized oilfields
Syria’s Energy Ministry has announced plans to swiftly resume operations at the al-Rasafa and Safyan oilfields, which were brought under government control earlier today. Workers have been called on to return to the sites and begin preparations for restarting production.
Officials say the priority is to protect national assets, secure vital infrastructure and restore output as quickly as possible. Oil remains a crucial pillar of Syria’s economy, which has been severely weakened by years of conflict and the loss of control over major energy resources.
Despite the latest gains, some of the country’s largest oilfields in Deir Az Zor province remain under the control of Kurdish-led forces. Damascus insists that all energy assets must be managed by the central government and used for the benefit of the entire country.
Analysts note that even a limited revival of oil production could help ease fuel shortages, support economic recovery and strengthen the government’s position as it seeks to reassert control over strategic sectors nationwide.
