A massive wildfire has broken out near Athens

Firefighters are battling a large wildfire in the suburbs of Athens that has engulfed areas with sparse vegetation. More than 100 firefighters have been deployed to extinguish the blaze near the industrial town of Aspropyrgos, west of the Greek capital.

This was reported by Ekathimerini.

The fire broke out shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday in a scrubland area north of the Sofo district and spread toward the neighboring mountains.

Fire department officials stated that homes are not in immediate danger.

By the end of the day, 108 firefighters, six specialized ground crews, 32 fire trucks, five helicopters, and one coordination aircraft had been deployed to extinguish the fire. Volunteers, municipal water tankers, and heavy equipment also provided assistance.

In the Rivne region, a forest fire broke out after a drone crashed.

Additionally, a large-scale forest fire broke out in the Chernihiv region near the state border. The fire engulfed thousands of hectares of forest, and preliminary data indicates that Russian shelling of border areas caused the blaze.

Over the past 24 hours, the Russian army carried out 41 strikes on border areas in the Chernihiv region, primarily using FPV drones.

In addition, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, a Russian FPV drone struck a utility vehicle carrying power company workers who were on their way to perform restoration work.
