Law enforcement is investigating the death of a Ukrainian man in a Czech prison — Novinky
In the Czech Republic, the General Inspectorate of Security Forces (GIBS) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 40-year-old Ukrainian citizen who was serving a sentence at the “Bory” prison in Plzeň.
According to Novinky, the incident occurred on May 10. A guard allegedly poured a disinfectant solution into the inmates’ plastic bottles. Three Ukrainian citizens drank the liquid and were hospitalized. One of them died in the hospital a few days later.
GIBS spokesperson Jakub Augusta confirmed that the agency has taken the case under its control and is conducting an investigation, but declined to provide further comment.
According to the publication, criminal proceedings have been opened on suspicion of a crime against life and health. The suspect in the case is the guard who gave the disinfectant to the inmates.
The preliminary cause of death is reported to be cerebral edema. Final conclusions are to be determined by a forensic medical examination.
