Spa centre near Rēzekne finds tenant after more than 20 auctions
In the Latvian city of Rēzekne, a tenant has been found for a recreation, or spa, centre on the shore of Lake Kovšu. The oral auction for the complex's lease rights ended on September 3, LSM English reports, citing the Rēzekne City Council.
More than 20 unsuccessful auctions
Rēzekne city authorities had been trying to find a tenant for the complex for several years. During that time, auctions for the lease rights were held more than 20 times, but there had previously been no interested parties.
Before the latest bidding, the municipality revised the auction documentation and changed several terms of the lease agreement. After another unsuccessful auction in spring, the local council said it could review the requirements for investors.

A hotel is planned nearby
The same investor also applied for an auction for the sale of a plot at 23 Brīvības Street. It is located next to the recreation centre, and a hotel is planned to be built there.
The complex was built with European Union funds. The project terms provide for attracting a private investor who must ensure a specified level of investment and create new jobs.
Industry representatives had previously noted that attracting investors would be difficult without a modern hotel and more active promotion of Rēzekne as a tourist destination. The multimillion-euro spa centre project was one of the reasons for the city's financial crisis, which led to the suspension of Mayor Aleksandrs Bartaševičs in November 2023 and later to the dissolution of the city council.
