US Ambassador-designate John Breslow arrives in Cyprus — Cyprus Mail
US Ambassador-designate John Breslow has arrived in Cyprus to assume his post. The US Embassy said that in the coming days he plans to present his credentials to Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. Cyprus Mail reports.
Confirmation of the nomination
Breslow was nominated for the post by US President Donald Trump, and the US Senate confirmed his nomination on August 7. He will formally begin performing his duties after presenting his credentials to Christodoulides.
Breslow is the first political appointee who is not a career diplomat to serve as US ambassador to Cyprus. During Senate hearings in April, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch called the appointment a historic step forward in relations between Washington and Nicosia.

Experience and stated priorities
Breslow was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. He spent much of his career in the private sector, serving as owner and chairman of Linweld, a company that supplies industrial gases and welding equipment. He also held the elected position of Nebraska state auditor for eight years, from 1991 to 1999.
During his confirmation hearings, Breslow said he intends to strengthen economic ties, trade and investment between the United States and Cyprus. He also named security cooperation as one of the key areas of his work, mentioning military exercises under Cyprus' partnership with the state of New Jersey and the island's role in evacuating US citizens from crisis areas in the region.
Regarding a Cyprus settlement, Breslow pledged to continue US support for a Cypriot-led, UN-mediated process. This concerns the reunification of the island as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
