Iran says it attacked three tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and three US-linked vessels

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said it attacked three oil tankers traveling along an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz. It also said it struck three vessels linked to the United States in other areas.

IRGC Navy statement

According to Anadolu Agency, the Iranian military described these actions as a response to alleged attacks by the US military on Iranian oil tankers. In a statement distributed by Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the IRGC Navy claimed that the United States had attacked three Iranian tankers earlier the same day and damaged them.

Warning to vessels

The IRGC Navy issued a firm warning to all vessels operating in the Gulf and near the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian military urged them not to take suspicious actions which, by its definition, are aimed at passing through unauthorized waterways.

The statement also threatened to attack vessels that, in Iran’s view, engage in such actions. The Anadolu Agency report did not provide independent confirmation of claims about attacks on Iranian tankers or other vessels.
