Israel criticizes UK foreign minister over remarks on medical care in Gaza
In Israel, the Foreign Ministry and US Ambassador Mike Huckabee criticized UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband following his remarks about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
As reported by the Jerusalem Post, Miliband called the situation in Gaza horrific. He spoke about accounts he had heard of medicines being blocked from entering, as well as of children who, according to those accounts, died while waiting for life-saving treatment. The British minister said that the country's government must act more decisively.
Position of Israel's Foreign Ministry
In a post on X, Israel's Foreign Ministry accused Miliband of spreading false information. The ministry said that there are no restrictions on the import of medicines into the Gaza Strip and that medicines are not being blocked.

The Foreign Ministry also claims that 22,500 tonnes of medical cargo have entered Gaza since the start of the ceasefire. According to the ministry, residents of the strip are leaving for treatment outside it, and 200 people have done so over the past two weeks. The ministry added that the United Kingdom is part of the international Gaza support center, which facilitates the transfer of medical aid to the strip.
Mike Huckabee's comment
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee supported the position of Israel's Foreign Ministry. He said that the British government disregards the facts and also accused it of antisemitism.
Earlier the same day, Huckabee visited the Palestinian town of Turmus Ayya near Ramallah in the West Bank. According to the US Embassy, he met local residents, including relatives of US citizens who, the publication reported, were killed by settlers. The ambassador said he heard from Americans accounts of criminal and terrorist actions by a group of people whom he described as trespassers operating on land belonging to lawful owners.
