Co-founder of Echo of St. Petersburg Dies After Being Beaten

Sergei Nedovodin, one of the founders of the radio station “Echo of St. Petersburg” and its former executive director, died at the age of 61 after being beaten in the Moscow Region.

In late June, he was admitted to the intensive care unit and never regained consciousness. According to his wife, Anna Shefner, on the evening of June 23, Nedovodin made a remark to an intoxicated neighbor and his friend who were talking loudly under his windows. After that, the man was beaten.

Nedovodin’s former colleague, Anastasia Mironova, claimed that one of the attackers identified himself as a member of the so-called “SVO.”

His condition remained critical. He developed sepsis and a lung abscess, and he never regained consciousness.

Nedovodin’s wife filed a report with the police. As of August 7, it was reported that no criminal case had been opened regarding the assault. However, according to Mironova, a case could still be opened at a later date.
