The U.S. May Change the Composition of Its Negotiating Team with Russia – Financial Times
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is considering reshuffling the negotiating team overseeing diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe may take on a leading role in the diplomatic process, while the involvement of Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner is expected to be scaled back.
The potential changes are linked to the lack of significant progress in Washington’s attempts to reach a peace agreement, as negotiations effectively reached an impasse in late February. Ratcliffe has already stepped up his involvement in the talks and recently made an unexpected visit to Moscow, where he met with representatives of Russian intelligence agencies, although his planned meeting with Vladimir Putin ultimately did not take place.

CIA Director John Retcliffe was unable to persuade Vladimir Putin to make concessions regarding Ukraine during his recent visit to Moscow. According to The Washington Post, following the meetings, the Kremlin may, on the contrary, be preparing for a further escalation of the war.
