US suspects China of developing next-generation nuclear weapons
According to CNN citing sources, US intelligence believes China conducted at least one secret nuclear test in June 2020 in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, despite a moratorium on such tests in place since 1996.
The research reportedly involves developing additional weapons systems capable of delivering multiple miniaturized nuclear warheads on a single missile, as well as creating low-yield tactical nuclear weapons. A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu, told CNN that the US is distorting China’s nuclear policy and claims about testing are baseless and manipulative, aimed at preserving US nuclear hegemony.
