The United States has confirmed its readiness to defend Japan by all means, including nuclear ones
The United States and Japan have decided to strengthen security cooperation within the framework of their bilateral defense alliance.
Official Washington has reaffirmed its readiness to defend Japanese territories using its entire military arsenal, including strategic nuclear deterrence forces.
The parties formalized these agreements in a joint statement following the Japan-U.S. Extended Deterrence Dialogue held in Tokyo.
The international meeting of defense delegations from both countries was dedicated to coordinating actions and modernizing joint efforts amid growing aggressive challenges.
The parties discussed in detail current security challenges in the Asia-Pacific region, where there has been a significant increase in military activity by neighboring states.
Representatives of the U.S. command briefed their partners in detail on plans to optimize their strategic forces to effectively counter modern hybrid and military threats.
The published official document clearly defines the scope and instruments of mutual support within the framework of existing agreements. Washington guarantees Tokyo’s security under any circumstances, viewing an attack on an ally as a direct threat to its own interests.
For its part, Japan provides logistical and infrastructure support to Pentagon units carrying out missions in the region.
“The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to the defense of Japan, utilizing its full range of defense capabilities, including nuclear capabilities,” the official statement following the talks reads.
The document notes that Japan, in turn, reaffirmed its support for U.S. troops and the operations they conduct to maintain peace.
The participants in the meeting emphasized that such close coordination is a key factor in deterring potential adversaries from attempting to alter the current geopolitical status quo.
During the intergovernmental dialogue, diplomats and military officials paid particular attention to global mechanisms for controlling the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Japanese officials expressed serious concern over the unchecked expansion of nuclear arsenals and called for the resumption of multilateral consultations.
Tokyo insists on the need to intensify international negotiations involving Beijing and Moscow to reduce overall tensions.
This was reported by the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
