The U.S. and Nigeria have killed one of ISIS's leaders, Trump said
The U.S. and Nigerian militaries conducted a joint operation that resulted in the elimination of Abu Bilal al-Minouki, one of the key leaders of the ISIS terrorist group.
This was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Trump, al-Minouki was the second-in-command in ISIS’s global hierarchy and was considered “the most active terrorist in the world.”
The U.S. president said the operation was carried out at night on his personal orders. He called it “flawlessly executed, meticulously planned, and very complex.”
As noted, the terrorist was hiding in Africa, but U.S. intelligence agencies were able to track his movements thanks to their own sources.
Trump also stated that following al-Minouki’s elimination, ISIS’s global operations would be significantly weakened. He separately thanked the Nigerian authorities for their cooperation during the special operation.
Prior to this, the U.S. military struck more than 30 ISIS targets in Syria as part of a large-scale military operation against the group. The strikes lasted several days and targeted weapons depots, bases, and other militant infrastructure. This was in response to an ISIS attack in December that killed U.S. service members.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces, together with allies, carried out powerful airstrikes on targets of the terrorist group “Islamic State” (ISIS) throughout Syria.
