US to withdraw troops from Iraq by September 30

The United States has begun withdrawing its troops from Iraq. According to The Hindu International, the process is already underway. US officials said that several hundred US service members still stationed in the country’s north are to leave Iraq by September 30.

Two deadlines at the end of the month

The report states that one of the two deadlines at the end of the month concerns the end of the United States’ years-long military presence in Iraq. The other deadline is connected with the disarmament of non-state armed groups.

The publication’s headline says that the groups are signaling their intention to retain their weapons. Thus, alongside the withdrawal of US forces, the issue of disarming non-state formations remains relevant for Iraq.
