The U.S. fired a missile at a commercial vessel that was attempting to reach Iran
U.S. military forces successfully intercepted the Lian Star, a cargo ship flying the Gambian flag, which was attempting to break through the naval blockade of Iranian ports.
This was officially reported by the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on social media platform X.
To neutralize the violator in the Gulf of Oman, a U.S. aircraft fired a Hellfire missile directly into the ship’s engine room, completely disabling it.
The crew of the dry cargo ship had long shown blatant defiance.
The vessel ignored more than 20 categorical warnings from U.S. forces issued throughout the night and persistently continued moving toward one of the ports of the Islamic Republic.
Military command decided to launch the missile only after the Lian Star’s crew finally refused to comply with lawful orders to stop.
This incident marked the sixth time that the U.S. Navy had forcibly stopped civilian vessels attempting to breach the established blockade line.
Despite strict controls, only one foreign vessel has been ultimately permitted to continue its original route during the entire duration of the restrictions.
At the same time, another 116 maritime vessels were forced to quickly change course to bypass the restricted zones after coming into contact with U.S. warships.
