Germany plans to increase defense spending to 3.5% of GDP due to the U.S. stance — Bloomberg

Europe is trying to rearm as quickly as possible, but it needs time and clear signals from the U.S. to compensate for the possible withdrawal of American troops

This was stated by Bundeswehr Inspector General Carsten Bröyer in an interview with Bloomberg TV.

According to him, Washington’s demands that Europeans take responsibility for their own security present the continent with a serious and complex problem.

The German military leader made this statement in response to recent harsh criticism from U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagset directed at European allies.

Broyer noted that Germany has already undertaken a massive increase in defense spending. Berlin aims to reach NATO’s ambitious target of 3.5% of GDP as early as 2029, six years ahead of the original schedule.

At the same time, the head of the German armed forces acknowledges the existence of objective industrial and logistical constraints that prevent an immediate restructuring of the security architecture.

“We all understand that we must take care of our own security, that we must assume greater responsibility, but we cannot build up the necessary capabilities so quickly,” emphasized the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr.

For European partners, it is currently critical to understand the White House’s specific plans regarding its future military presence.

According to Broer, it does not matter whether U.S. units will be permanently stationed in Europe or will arrive from across the ocean in the event of a crisis.

The main condition for stability remains the predictability of actions on the part of the U.S. president and the Pentagon leadership.

The U.S. Army has received the first launchers for the new-generation Javelin anti-tank missiles

The U.S. State Department has given the “green light” to a potential sale to the Estonian government of modern Javelin anti-tank missile systems and related equipment worth approximately $296 million

U.S. Vice President Vance stated that it is precisely thanks to the supply of weapons, particularly Javelins, that Ukraine has been able to maintain control over a significant portion of its territory and continues to resist a full-scale Russian invasion.
