The U.S. carried out strikes on bridges and dozens of military targets in Iran

On the night of July 17, the U.S. military launched a new series of strikes against Iranian military targets. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that dozens of targets were struck, including air defense, coastal surveillance, military logistics, and naval infrastructure facilities.

According to the Iranian news agency Fars, several bridges in the southern province of Hormozgan were damaged during the strikes. Some of them are located on routes leading to the city of Bandar Abbas, where forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are based.

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing a U.S. official, the strikes on the bridges were intended to block supply routes to Bandar Abbas. These attacks are part of a large-scale air operation and naval blockade designed to limit Iran’s logistical capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz region.

According to Iranian sources, seven people were killed and nine others were wounded as a result of the strikes. In addition, Iran’s Ministry of Energy reported damage to a power line in Bandar Abbas and nearby towns. The Fars News Agency also reported damage to the city’s railway hub.

CENTCOM noted that the operation involved fighter jets, drones, and U.S. Navy ships, which used precision-guided munitions.

This marks the sixth wave of U.S. strikes following attacks by Iranian forces on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, the U.S. announced a blockade of Iranian shipping in the region and began rerouting vessels bound for Iranian ports.

This was reported by CENTCOM, The Wall Street Journal, and Iranian media.

As a reminder, Iran claimed to have struck U.S. surveillance systems in Oman.

The IRGC announced a strike on a U.S. base in Syria.
