US to impose sanctions on major bank on Monday
In the United States, President Donald Trump’s administration plans to impose sanctions on a major bank on Monday. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this on Thursday, The Jerusalem Post reports. The official did not name either the financial institution or the country in which it operates.
Bessent made the statement on Real America’s Voice. According to him, the sanctions are part of Washington’s economic pressure on Tehran aimed at ending the US conflict with Iran, which has lasted for more than six months.
Sanctions postponed until Monday
The sanctions were initially planned for Friday, but were postponed because of ceremonies marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Bessent said the United States would continue sanctions pressure until other parties stop cooperating with the Iranian regime.

Economic pressure on Iran
Since the start of the conflict in February, the United States has imposed a number of economic restrictions on Iran. They targeted oil exports, shipping networks, weapons procurement channels, financial intermediaries, digital asset exchanges, and aviation links.
Last month, the Trump administration intensified the campaign as part of Operation Economic Outcast. At that time, sanctions were imposed on nearly 60 companies, individuals, and vessels, while secondary sanctions were expanded against those doing business with Iran in shipping, aviation, technology, gold, and digital assets. On Wednesday, Trump predicted that the war would not end before the November midterm elections in the United States.
