US imposes sanctions on networks supporting Hezbollah
The United States has imposed new sanctions on companies and individuals that, according to Washington, assist the Lebanese group Hezbollah and other Iran-linked forces in the Middle East. The restrictions apply to entities and people in Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Turkey.
As The Jerusalem Post reports, the sanctions were imposed by the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. US authorities said that the sanctioned individuals and organizations supported the Iraqi group Kataib Hezbollah and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
Operation against financial networks
The new measures are part of a US Treasury Department campaign called Operation “Economic Outcast,” which was announced on August 24. The department said its goal was to limit Tehran’s financing of war, missile production, cyberattacks and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the operation targets those who finance terrorism, launder money or help Iran evade sanctions. According to him, the United States intends to cut such networks off from the US financial system.
Licenses and settlement of violations
The Office of Foreign Assets Control also said it would deny most Iran-related license requests, except in special cases. The agency noted that it had already begun denying the overwhelming majority of applications for specific licenses that are still under review.
Separately, the US Treasury announced a settlement with a US citizen who agreed to pay $1.43 million to settle potential civil liability for 39 alleged violations of the Iran sanctions regime. The department also urged whistleblowers to report possible sanctions evasion or money laundering linked to Iran.
