Mexico City prepares Independence Day parade involving more than 18,000 military personnel
In Mexico City, Mexico, a military parade for Independence Day will take place on September 16, involving more than 18,000 members of the armed forces. Defense Minister General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo inspected the event’s logistics, Mexico News Daily reports.
Route and air show
The parade is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on September 16 with a flyover of the central Zócalo square by nearly 100 Air Force and National Guard aircraft and helicopters. F-5 fighter jets will perform a fleur-de-lis maneuver.
The ground portion of the procession, about five kilometers long, will start near the Zócalo, pass the Palace of Fine Arts, continue along Juárez Avenue and Paseo de la Reforma, and end near the Campo Marte military complex close to Chapultepec Park.
The event will involve representatives of the army, navy, air force and National Guard, as well as cadets, pilots, military engineers, medics, communications specialists, military police and special forces. Horses, dogs and eagles will also take part in the parade.

September 15 celebrations
On the evening of September 15, President Claudia Sheinbaum will hold the traditional Grito de Independencia ceremony from the balcony of the National Palace. A free concert by Texas-based norteño-tejano band Intocable is scheduled at the Zócalo square.
Free concerts, food fairs and local Grito ceremonies will also be held in Mexico City’s 16 districts. Celebrations will also take place in other regions of the country, including Dolores Hidalgo and San Miguel de Allende, where reenactments of the start of the 1810 independence movement are planned.
Mexico’s Independence Day is dedicated to the start of the uprising against Spanish rule in 1810, although the war of independence ended only in 1821. September 16 is an official public holiday, while September 15 remains a regular working and school day.
