It has become clear why the U.S. is not sharing Patriot technology with Ukraine — The Atlantic
American manufacturers of Patriot systems are reluctant to grant Ukraine licenses to produce interceptor missiles. According to *The Atlantic*, the companies fear that Ukraine will be able to manufacture such missiles faster and more cheaply, which could affect their market position.
As the publication reports, a Republican official on Capitol Hill who supports granting the licenses explained the real reason for the delay in this matter.
On August 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made it clear that the main reason for the delay at this point is bureaucracy and “red tape.”
Meanwhile, a source for The Atlantic says that the American companies Raytheon and Lockheed, which manufacture the Patriot system, “will cite their concerns about the risk of intellectual property theft and technology transfer.” However, the official added that the real reason lies in the companies’ fears that Ukraine will find a way to improve the Patriot system, after which it will set up mass production and manufacture missiles much faster and cheaper than the U.S.
Earlier, Finland cited the reason why it would not supply Ukraine with missiles for the Patriot system.
As a reminder, during his first official visit to Serbia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that deliveries of interceptor missiles for the Patriot systems in 2026 had decreased compared to 2025.
The Air Force reported that 72% of drones were destroyed during a nighttime attack by Russia.
