Starmer accused Musk of interfering in British politics

Starmer accused Musk of interfering in British politics

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has accused American entrepreneur Elon Musk of interfering in the country’s internal political affairs. The statement came amid public outcry over the Henry Novak murder case.

According to the British prime minister, comments and posts by the owner of the X platform regarding events in the country contribute to the escalation of political debates. Starmer emphasized that the dissemination of unverified information can negatively impact public sentiment and public order.

The dispute arose after Musk publicly commented on the situation in the UK and the actions of British authorities.

The head of government criticized Musk for attempting to “sow division” in the UK following the murder of 18-year-old Henry Novak and the conclusion of his killer’s trial.

The Prime Minister spoke out after it became known that since last Wednesday, Musk had shared and created about 110 posts on his X platform dedicated to British politics. This is far more than he has written about SpaceX, his company, which is set to go public soon.

As is well known, Musk supports the far-right in Britain, specifically Nigel Farage’s Reform UK and Rupert Law’s Restore Britain. Most of his posts concerned the Novak case, where he strongly supported the view that the student was a victim of “anti-white racism” by the police.

Last December, student Henry Novak was stabbed by 23-year-old Vikram Digwa. When the police arrived at the scene, the attacker lied to the officers, claiming that Novak had knocked his turban off and insulted him on the basis of race. These claims led the police to handcuff the injured man while he was dying on the ground, despite his pleas and explanations.

When Starmer was asked about Musk and his posts on the subject, the prime minister called these actions interference in the country’s internal affairs.

"We also need to state who we are as a country, because Musk has been meddling in our politics again in recent days, trying to sow division, and that is not who we are in the UK. In Britain, we are intelligent, tolerant people. When a terrible incident occurs, such as the situation with Henry Novak, we respond calmly, as his family has done,” Starmer said.

Starmer’s statement was reported by The Guardian.

Starmer said he has no plans to step down as prime minister despite the pressure — Sky News.

Prior to this, a former British minister expressed his readiness to replace Starmer.

Earlier, Starmer noted growing tensions in relations with the U.S.
