Dubai longevity strategy to bring Dh35bn — The National

In Dubai, UAE, Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed approved the strategy and budget of the Dubai Longevity Authority. The strategy envisages annual growth of about 31% and is expected to contribute more than Dh35 billion, or $9.53 billion, to the emirate’s economy over the next decade, The National reports.

The decision was made at the first meeting of the Dubai Longevity Authority, chaired by Hamdan bin Mohammed. According to him, the emirate aims to become a global hub for healthy longevity in research and development, clinical trials, manufacturing and global markets.

Tasks of the new authority

The authority was established in June to oversee measures intended to help people live longer and remain healthy without chronic diseases and cognitive decline. It will develop strategies to create conditions for the advancement of cutting-edge therapies, preventive interventions, clinical innovations and ethical practices.

Sector regulation

Helal Al Marri, director general of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism and chairman of the Dubai Longevity Authority, said that the body has already established governance foundations and defined its regulatory direction. According to him, approval of the strategy and budget gives the authority a mandate to proceed along a phased roadmap toward licensed activities, institutional investment and tangible improvements in healthy and overall life expectancy.
