US court dismisses most claims against Dali owner and manager

A US federal judge has dismissed most of the remaining civil claims in the case concerning the collision of the container ship Dali with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in March 2024. According to The Hindu International, the ruling concerns the vessel’s owner, Grace Ocean Private Limited, and its manager, Synergy Marine Pte Ltd.

Court ruling

On August 25, US District Judge for the District of Maryland James K. Bredar considered the companies’ motion to dismiss all 10 claims that were still pending. The judge dismissed most of these civil claims.

Grace Ocean Private Limited is the owner of the Dali, while Synergy Marine Pte Ltd is the manager of the container ship.

Collision with the bridge

The container ship Dali collided with a support of the Francis Scott Key Bridge on March 26, 2024. The vessel was staffed predominantly by an Indian crew.

Six workers carrying out construction work were killed as a result of the bridge collapse. The incident also led to the closure of the Port of Baltimore; full traffic there was restored only after three months.
