A Russian ship carrying nuclear reactors for North Korea was sunk by NATO torpedoes – CNN

The Russian vessel Ursa Major was damaged after being struck by a torpedo, a type of weapon used only by the United States, certain NATO countries, Russia, and Iran. The cargo ship was transporting two nuclear reactors for nuclear submarines, which Moscow planned to transfer to Pyongyang in exchange for the deployment of North Korean troops.

CNN reported this.

A hole characteristic of the use of high-tech underwater weapons was discovered in the ship’s hull near Cartagena, Spain. The Russian military ship Ivan Gren, which was escorting the cargo, attempted to prevent Spanish rescue teams from approaching the damaged vessel closer than 3.7 km. The crew of the sinking ship was evacuated by Spanish forces, after which the captain confirmed the nature of the cargo.

South Korean intelligence agencies had warned as early as 2025 about preparations to transfer nuclear components to North Korea as part of military cooperation with Russia. Analysis of satellite data and the crew’s testimony confirm that the reactors were loaded in St. Petersburg in December 2024. An international investigation into the incident is currently underway, which could set a precedent for direct military intervention by the Alliance to prevent the proliferation of nuclear technology.

On the night of December 24, 2024, the Russian dry cargo ship Ursa Major sank in the Mediterranean Sea; it may have been involved in the evacuation of a Russian military base in Syria.

The company “Oboronlogistika” claims that its vessel, the Ursa Major, sank in the Mediterranean Sea as a result of an explosion.
