Tajani says Bonaccini insulted right-wing voters
Italy’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, said that Stefano Bonaccini, the head of the opposition Democratic Party, insulted the majority of Italian citizens with remarks about the allegedly low level of education among right-wing voters.
Tajani’s reaction
Tajani, who also leads the centre-right Forza Italia party, called the remarks an insult to Italian voters and citizens. According to him, they mostly voted for centre-right forces.
The minister stressed that he would not call uneducated those who vote for the left. He also said that one does not need to have five higher education diplomas to have the right to vote, and that every Italian citizen is capable of making their own choice.

Criticism of the left-wing approach
Tajani criticised what he called a typical left-wing elitist approach, in which someone decides who is educated, intelligent, honest, kind or capable. In his opinion, such a position is arrogant and is ultimately rejected by citizens who do not want to be judged by others.
