Takaichi discussed Trump’s meeting with Xi Jinping — Anadolu Agency

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said she discussed with US President Donald Trump his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The phone call took place after talks between Trump and Xi in Washington.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump called Takaichi shortly after his talks with the Chinese leader and briefed her in detail on the US-China summit. According to the Japanese prime minister, the conversation began at 9:00 p.m. local time, which corresponded to 12:00 GMT.

Economy and security

Takaichi said that during the call, the sides exchanged views on issues related to China, including the economy, security, and economic security. They also reaffirmed cooperation between Japan and the United States.

The Japanese prime minister said that Tokyo and Washington have become the most trusted allies. According to her, the leaders also confirmed their readiness to jointly promote peace and stability in the region and the world.

Meeting in New York

The phone call took place several days after Takaichi and Trump met on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. At that time, the leaders agreed to develop cooperation in the economy, security, and economic security, including in the fields of artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and critical minerals.

Trump hosted Xi in Washington on Thursday. Their talks covered bilateral relations and Taiwan. Relations between Tokyo and Beijing remain strained after Takaichi’s statement in November last year that a Chinese attack on Taiwan could trigger a military response from Japan. The United States and Japan are military allies; around 50,000 US military personnel are stationed in Japan.
