Tokayev called Kazakhstan the successor to the Golden Horde
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan is the heir to the Golden Horde and called for the study of its political and economic model.
According to Tokayev, the new version of Kazakhstan’s Constitution enshrines the continuity of the Great Steppe and its historical heritage.
He noted that at its peak, the territory of the Jochi Ulus exceeded 6 million square kilometers, with about 100 cities on these lands, and the Jochi dynasty’s rule lasted for over six centuries.
Separately, the President of Kazakhstan drew attention to the financial system of the Golden Horde. According to him, historians estimate the volume of coinage at approximately 28 million silver coins.
Tokayev also stated that the name of Kazakhstan’s national currency—the tenge—derives from the Horde word “dang,” from which the word “money” likely also originates.
He added that the National Bank of Kazakhstan recently issued a thousand silver coins dedicated to the Golden Horde.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, confirmed that the transit of Kazakhstani oil to Germany via Russia has been temporarily suspended.
Kazakhstan is changing its oil supply routes following the temporary suspension of transit via the Druzhba pipeline in May.
