Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he has a good relationship with Xi Jinping. According to him, the United States and China “get along very well.” Anadolu Agency reports on the US president’s statements.
Xi Jinping is expected to arrive in Washington next week for talks with Trump on September 24. The US president also noted that he regrets the White House ballroom is not ready: according to him, it could have hosted a dinner for about 2,000 people during the Chinese leader’s visit.

Tariffs and espionage
Trump mentioned tariffs on Chinese goods and said their level had previously reached 145%, but he later lowered it. According to the US president, the higher tariffs hit China “very hard.”
Answering a question about China’s treatment of journalists, Trump said he did not know about it. He also said that the United States does not engage in repression, although the media, in his opinion, spread “fake news.” In addition, Trump said that the United States and China spy on each other, but declined to disclose classified information.
