Trump announces sale of F-35 warplanes to Saudi Arabia during Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Washington

Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman is making his first visit to the United States since the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. During this visit, the sale of 48 F-35 aircraft is being considered, which has caused widespread controversy, as the US administration is committed to ensuring Israel's military superiority in the region. The prince claims that he was not involved in Khashoggi's murder, although this event caused a significant deterioration in relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia.

Washington hopes that this sale, estimated at $600 billion, will help attract investment to the United States and open up new opportunities for economic cooperation that are currently being negotiated. Domestic analysts note that such aviation deals could also boost investor confidence in Saudi Arabia's continued stability as it seeks to reduce its dependence on oil.

At the same time, the issue of security of F-35 technology remains on the agenda. U.S. officials have expressed concern about China's possible unauthorized access to F-35-related technologies. One of the possible conditions of the agreement may be to restrict certain technologies to protect sensitive data and at the same time comply with obligations to Israel.
