Trump and Melania Demand ABC Fire Jimmy Kimmel Over Jokes, According to the NYT

U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have publicly called on ABC to immediately remove comedian Jimmy Kimmel from the air. The reason was his performance, which included harsh jokes about the presidential couple during a monologue at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The New York Times reports on this.

In his performance, Kimmel made a series of sharp remarks, including comparing Melania Trump to a “pregnant widow,” as well as comments regarding the U.S. president’s age and health.

“The First Lady called the comedian’s words ‘caustic’ and said they deepen the political divide in America. She emphasized that such rhetoric is not comedy, and that Kimmel himself is acting like a ‘coward,’” the report states.

Donald Trump also reacted sharply to the performance, calling it “truly shocking” and urging Disney, which owns ABC, to fire the host. The White House press secretary joined in the criticism, calling such content “insane.”

Kimmel’s references to Melania Trump and the Jeffrey Epstein case—which the First Lady had previously officially denied—drew particular outrage.

The situation has reignited the debate in the U.S. regarding the limits of free speech and political satire.

Earlier, Prince Harry appeared on an episode of the American show “The Late Show,” where he performed in a comedy sketch in which he joked about U.S. President Donald Trump.
