Trump and Xi Jinping begin summit in the US — South China Morning Post

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have begun a summit in the United States. According to the South China Morning Post, this is Xi Jinping’s first visit to the United States for a summit since 2015.

Ceremony at the White House

The leaders’ morning began with an official arrival ceremony on the South Lawn and in the White House Rose Garden. Nearly 500 service members took part in it.

The US Marine Corps band performed the national anthems of China and the United States. Trump and Xi also delivered opening remarks.

After the ceremony, the program included a military review in the Rose Garden. A flyover by a B-2 Spirit bomber and F-22 Raptor fighter jets was also planned.

Later, Trump and Xi Jinping were expected to hold closed-door bilateral meetings. Among the difficult issues the leaders are to discuss, the publication names artificial intelligence and trade tariffs.
