Trump May Launch a U.S. Military Operation in Mali
U.S. President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of a U.S. military operation in Mali. If such a decision is made, Mali would become the eighth country where the U.S. has used military force since the start of Trump’s second presidential term.
According to sources, there is no consensus among members of the U.S. administration regarding the advisability of the strikes. Sebastian Gorku, Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the U.S. National Security Council, is cited as one of the main proponents of the military operation.
The White House has not confirmed reports of preparations for strikes but stated that the U.S. is calling on countries in North and West Africa to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorist groups. At the same time, the U.S. criticized Russia. In their view, Moscow has failed to ensure security in Mali, despite providing military support to the local junta.
In recent years, the JNIM group has significantly strengthened its positions in Mali and expanded its activities to neighboring countries in West Africa. It is considered the most powerful jihadist organization in the region.

Trump has authorized the resumption of direct flights to Lebanon.
Bilal Saab, senior managing director of the Trends Research Group, gave a positive assessment of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun’s visit to Washington. In an interview with France 24, Saab—whom the network describes as a close friend of the Lebanese president—expressed cautious optimism about the outcome of the meeting.
