Trump names the most suitable moment for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the best time to conclude a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia was the moment when he spoke about the “lack of maps,” referring to the insufficient preparedness of both sides.
This was reported during a White House broadcast.

According to him, that moment was the most suitable for resolving the conflict, but the decision was not made, and now Russia faces numerous factors working against it. Trump shared these thoughts during a broadcast from the White House, referring to a tense meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that took place on February 28.

“You know, when I was in this office and talked about ‘maps’ — I said: you don’t have the maps. That’s when the deal should have been made. I thought that time was a much better moment for a settlement. But they, in their wisdom, decided not to do it. Now they have many factors working against them,” the U.S. president said.

Trump also noted that Ukraine should have made a deal to end the hostilities, calling the war “senseless.”

In November 2022, the United States presented Kyiv with a peace plan that included a large number of points, but Kyiv considered some of the conditions disadvantageous — such as territorial concessions and restrictions on NATO membership.

Following Ukraine’s strong objections, a series of meetings was held, which led to the reduction of the plan’s conditions.

Later, a Ukrainian delegation headed by the NSDC Secretary traveled to Florida to further refine the plan. In December, Trump also sent his representatives to Moscow for negotiations, but there is no information about the outcome. All sides still state that the meetings were productive.

As a reminder, Trump’s peace plan threatens to cause a split within NATO.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that it is not worth reacting to the latest statements from Putin and his entourage.
