President John Mahama says construction of Wa airport will begin soon
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama said that construction of a new airport in the city of Wa, in the Upper West Region, is expected to begin soon. He made the statement after inspecting the proposed site for the project.
Financing and contractors
As MyJoyOnline reports, the Ghana Airports Company has secured funding for the project. According to Mahama, the government is not currently seeking funds for construction, as the necessary resources are already available.
The president also announced the completion of the procurement process and the selection of contractors. According to him, this will allow construction work to begin in the near future.

Aviation infrastructure
Mahama noted that the existing airport in Wa was initially developed as an airstrip and no longer meets the needs of modern aviation. The new airport, he said, is intended to provide the region with modern aviation infrastructure.
The project is part of government plans to expand and improve domestic air connectivity, as well as develop aviation infrastructure for communities in different parts of the country.
