U.S. President Donald Trump has so far been unable to bring Iran back to the negotiating table or achieve an outcome that would allow the conflict to be resolved on terms favorable to Washington. Against this backdrop, CNN has outlined a possible scenario for de-escalation.
According to analysts, one option could be an international mechanism for managing shipping in the Strait of Hormuz involving Gulf countries, including Iran. This would ensure the safe passage of ships and reduce tensions without requiring either side to formally concede ground.
CNN notes that a protracted conflict threatens to trigger another spike in global oil and gas prices and could also negatively impact Donald Trump’s political standing.
