Trump Threatened the EU with New Tariffs Over Fines Imposed on Google
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he would seek to overturn the European Union’s fines against American technology companies and threatened the EU with new tariffs. He posted the statement on the social media platform Truth Social, according to “European Truth.”
Trump stated that the total amount of fines imposed by the EU on Google exceeded $18 billion. He called the EU’s practice illegal and discriminatory, and asserted that the U.S. will not allow Europe to use American companies as a “cash cow.”

The U.S. president announced his intention to immediately launch a Section 301 investigation into what he called the “robbery” of American companies and taxpayers. According to Trump, the fines must be completely lifted, and he expects the EU to face significant tariffs in the near future.
Earlier this week, the European Commission fined Google 890 million euros, or about $1 billion, for violating the Digital Markets Act. In early July, the EU Court of Justice also rejected Google’s appeal and upheld the European Commission’s €4.1 billion fine for abuse of a dominant market position.
