Trump criticized aid to Ukraine and made a harsh statement about funding

Trump criticized aid to Ukraine and made a harsh statement about funding

This statement came amid growing tensions in relations between Washington and Brussels. U.S. President Donald Trump spoke out sharply against the previous administration’s policy, criticizing what he called the allocation of “$350 billion to Ukraine.”

He also noted that currently, the United States is essentially only selling ammunition, while the European Union is footing the bill.

This was stated by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a report citing a broadcast of his address to the nation.

Thus, U.S. President Donald Trump once again harshly criticized the foreign policy of his predecessor, Joe Biden, stating that the U.S. should not have intervened in the war in Ukraine.

During a conversation with journalists, the White House chief emphasized the enormous financial costs and the depletion of American arsenals.

In addition, Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the scale of support the U.S. had previously provided to Ukraine and questioned the wisdom of Washington’s deep involvement in the affairs of a country located “across the ocean.”

Key points of Trump’s statement

The U.S. president emphasized that the previous administration had spent colossal resources without, in his view, reaping any benefits for U.S. national interests.

"We’re spending billions. You know, we shouldn’t have gotten involved in Ukraine. Ukraine is thousands of miles away, across the ocean. We helped them. We had a president—just a fool: he gave them $350 billion, getting nothing in return, gave them that much money, spent that much ammunition," Trump said.

According to Trump, the $350 billion that Biden allocated to Zelenskyy was given away “for nothing.”

In addition, the White House chief stated that due to excessive arms shipments to Ukraine, U.S. stockpiles were critically depleted. That is why the U.S. is now forced to massively ramp up production across the country.

Trump emphasized that his approach is radically different: instead of giving ammunition away for free, he sells it.

"We are now manufacturing ammunition across the country because we need it... He gave so much to Ukraine and received nothing in return. But I sell them ammunition. The European Union pays for it," Donald Trump emphasized.

Context and Pressure on Europe

This statement came amid growing tensions between Washington and Brussels. Recall that Trump had previously threatened European allies to halt arms supplies to Ukraine under the PURL program if EU countries did not support the U.S. military operation in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Trump’s aggressive rhetoric indicates his desire to shift the financial burden of supporting Ukraine onto Europe’s shoulders, while simultaneously demanding greater loyalty from allies in other regions of the world.

Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker has already stated that Trump has begun reviewing policy regarding support for European initiatives aimed at assisting Ukraine, direct U.S. participation in NATO, and other international commitments.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO. According to him, this is due to the fact that the Alliance did not join the U.S. operation against Iran.

The United Kingdom has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement regarding the country’s possible withdrawal from NATO. Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized his commitment to the Alliance and assured that he would not allow the country to be drawn into war.
