Russia will partially close its airspace over Moscow and several other regions

Russia will partially close its airspace over Moscow and several other regions

In early June 2026, strict restrictions on civil aviation flights will be introduced in the Moscow region and a number of other regions in Russia.

The new rules will significantly restrict the use of airspace over the European part of the aggressor country.

Official agencies are already preparing relevant directives for aviation services and private aircraft owners.

According to the decision, civilian aircraft will be prohibited from flying below 5,100 meters in the Moscow airspace.

The imposed limits will affect a vast territory and disrupt the usual traffic of small aircraft. The restrictions will apply to routes from St. Petersburg and the border with Belarus to Yekaterinburg, Samara, and the southern regions of the country.

The new measures will close the skies to most private pilots, though the government is allowing exceptions for strategically important flights. The transportation system will continue to operate under strict military and air traffic control supervision.

At the same time, the restrictions will not apply to scheduled and charter passenger flights, medical evacuation aircraft, or aircraft performing aerial chemical operations and aerial work under government contracts.
