North Korea has resumed missile launches after a month-long hiatus — Reuters
On Tuesday, May 26, North Korea conducted another test launch of several short-range ballistic missiles toward waters off its west coast.
This was reported by Reuters.
Pyongyang’s military activity was detected by international monitoring systems and neighboring countries in the region.
South Korean military officials quickly tracked the missiles’ flight paths and recorded the exact time of the latest provocation by the DPRK.
According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the missiles were launched around 7:00 a.m. Kyiv time. Analysts are currently studying the detailed technical specifications of the launched projectiles.
This incident broke a relative month-long lull in the North Korean dictatorial regime’s testing of new weapons. This is the first known missile launch by the DPRK since April 19.
At that time, Pyongyang also conducted tests of short-range ballistic missiles. North Korea claimed that those missiles were equipped with cluster munitions.
The DPRK’s political leadership continues to demonstrate the unwavering nature of its militaristic stance to the international community.
Official Pyongyang refuses to make any compromises regarding the curtailment of military development. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un previously described North Korea’s status as a nuclear power as “irreversible.”
He also stated that expanding nuclear deterrence is necessary to ensure the country’s security.
Despite strict restrictions imposed by international institutions, the communist state continues to secretly and openly fund its military factories.
Despite UN Security Council sanctions against the DPRK’s nuclear and missile programs, Pyongyang has been actively expanding its arsenal in recent years. This regularly draws criticism from South Korea, Japan, and the United States.
Official Seoul once again emphasized the importance of a diplomatic resolution to the protracted crisis on the peninsula and called on its neighbors to halt the escalation.
Against the backdrop of the new launch, a spokesperson for South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the DPRK to respond to Seoul’s peace proposals and support efforts to reduce tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
