Trump promises $5,000 to every adult in US if Republicans win
US President Donald Trump, during a speech in Dallas, promised to pay $5,000 to every adult if the Republican Party wins the midterm congressional elections in November. As the South China Morning Post reports, he called the potential payments a “Trump dividend” and said the money should be spent in the United States.
Speech in Dallas
Trump spoke at the opening of a two-day Republican convention aimed at mobilizing voters ahead of the battle for control of Congress. Unlike traditional party conventions, where presidential candidates are formally nominated, this event does not include nomination procedures. Republicans called the gathering “Trump-a-palooza.”
In a speech that lasted nearly two hours, Trump said his presidency had been the most successful in history by financial and other measures. The convention’s agenda includes tax cuts, the economy, border security, public safety, healthcare, drug prices, education, and cultural issues.
China, migration and elections
The president also spoke about tariffs and the trade war, the war with Iran, and immigration policy. He mentioned China several times, including in the context of record foreign investment in the United States and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit planned in several weeks.

Trump said the White House ballroom, whose construction sparked controversy, would be better than the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. He also repeated criticism of previous US presidents for allowing the semiconductor industry to move to Taiwan.
Earlier at the event, Todd Blanche, whom the source describes as the newly appointed head of the US Department of Justice, said that 2.6 million people he called “criminal aliens” had been deported from the United States. Democrats criticized the convention as a political show focused on Trump and called the Republicans’ course irresponsible.
Trump was due to return to the event on Thursday for a closing speech. Texas will also hold a US Senate election: state Attorney General Ken Paxton, backed by Trump, will compete against Democratic state representative James Talarico.
